Swim Class Level Checklists:

  • Understand the basic water safety rules
  • Know how to get help
  • Ender and exit water independently
  • Fully submerge face for 3 seconds
  • Blow bubbles
  • Bounce in chest-deep water (BOB) to chin level 10 times
  • Walk 5 yards in chest deep water
  • Float while supported on front
  • Float while supported on back
  • Kick while supported on front
  • Kick while supported on back
  • Practice basic alternating arm action
  • Move from standing to horizontal position
  • Hold breath and fully submerge head for 3 seconds
  • Float or glide on front for 5 seconds
  • Photo or glide on back for 5 seconds
  • Submerge to get object in chest-deep
  • Explore deep water with flotation
  • Enter pool at chest-deep and stand
  • Perform flutter kick on front & back
  • Turn over from front to back, and back to front
  • Practice back crawl arms actions
  • Perform front stroke for 5 yards
  • Perform back stroke for 5 yards
  • Bob in water slightly over head to travel to safe area
  • Jump into deep water from side of pool
  • Retrieve an object from the bottom in chest-deep water
  • Perform 15 bobs in chest deep water
  • Do back crawl, 10 yards
  • Elementary backstroke it, 10 yards
  • Dive from the side of pool from kneeling and compact positions
  • Tread water
  • Reverse direction while swimming on back and on front
  • Coordinate arm stroke for front crawl while breathing to the side, 10 yards
  • Perform front glide with push off, 2 body lengths
  • Perform back glide with push-off, 2 body lengths
  • Perform rotary breathing
  • Practice deep water bobbing
  • Demonstrate diving from poolside, from both stride and standing positions
  • Demonstrate turning at the wall
  • Practice treading water with a modified scissors, modified breast stroke and/or rotary kicks for 2 minutes
  • Front crawl for 25 yards with rotary breathing
  • Back crawl for 25 yards
  • Elementary backstroke for 10 yards
  • Scissor kick for 10 yards
  • Sculling on back for 5 yards or 15 seconds
  • Breaststroke kick for 10 yards
  • Understand rules for safe diving
  • Continue refinement of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke
  • Tread water 2 minutes with 2 different kicks (rotary, scissor, etc.)
  • Demonstrate basic dives
  • Standing front dive from diving board
  • Long, shallow dive
  • Swim underwater 3 body lengths
  • Feet-first surface dive
  • Demonstrate alternate breathing
  • Breaststroke for 10 yards
  • Sidestroke for 10 yards
  • Elementary backstroke for 25 yards
  • Dolphin kick for 10 yards
  • Front crawl for 50 yards
  • Back crawl for 50 yards
  • Open turn on front and back
  • Sidestroke turn
  • Breaststroke turn
  • Flip turn for front crawl
  • Tread water for 3 minutes, 1 minute without hands, 2 minutes with hands
  • Demonstrate jump tuck dive from diving board
  • Perform an approach and hurdle on diving board
  • Perform pike surface dive and tuck surface dive
  • Front & back crawl for 100 yards each with turns (open of flip)
  • Breaststroke & sidestroke for 25 yards
  • Butterfly for 10 yards
  • Review Level 6 (strokes, turns and skills)
  • Front crawl 200 yards
  • Back crawl 100 yards
  • Swimming underwater 15 yards
  • Breaststroke 50 yards
  • Sidestroke 50 yards
  • Butterfly 50 yards
  • Backstroke flip turn
  • Retrieve diving brick in deep water
  • Tread water for 5 minutes
  • Review water safety skills
